Twelfth Week in Perth, Australia:
This week was another rough week. I’m beginning to find it incredibly difficult to stay focused on my priorities with increasing distractions from home. These result in incredible amounts of stress causing me to utilize unhealthy ways of coping. Now, I’m not entirely sure what to think or do with myself. I continue to make impulsive decisions, however, it’s almost like I don’t even care. This is all so bizarre to me because I never experienced this feeling in America. As of right now, I suppose I will continue to reach out to my friends and ask for their support. Maybe they’ll have a better method of coping with similar stresses.
On the contrary, I’m looking forward to this weekend! Tomorrow, my friend Taylor and I are strolling down to Varsity to meet up with my friend Oliver and a couple of his mates! It should be a pretty fun time and hopefully I’ll get to make some new friends. The next morning, Taylor and I will be taking an early departure on a ferry to Penguin Island! We’ll be spending the whole day touring the island, visiting dolphins, and photographing local penguins. That evening, shortly following our return, I’ll be rushing to get ready for an extravagant night out at the casino with my friends from Guild House. It’ll be our first times going to the casino, and we’re all a bit nervous! I don’t plan on gambling, however, I wouldn’t mind observing an intense poker game from the sidelines.

What have you accomplished while abroad that makes you proud?
Since being abroad, I’ve overcome my fear of bugs. It was almost like the moment I landed in WA, my enormous phobia of bugs disappeared! This made adapting to my new environment a bit easier considering I could focus on learning my way around. Another huge accomplishment I’ve made while being abroad is refraining from isolating. At home, it was tremendously easy for me to shut out the world and focus solely on homework and training. Now, I reflect back on those moments and realize I never want to live like that again! I missed out on so many opportunities with friends and family. Upon my return home, I hope to continue being as outgoing as I’ve been during my time abroad. Maintaining this adventurous aspect may encourage myself to explore more at home, and hopefully procure more memories along the way!
