How did studying abroad impact your future?
Studying abroad has impacted my future by influencing me to pursue a career involving global travel. My former career ambitions entailed enhancing my position in a company and remaining local to friends and family. Rather than limiting myself to the Phoenix area, I now desire to devote my environmental engineering passions toward improving developing countries’ water quality standards. I aspire to travel to these locations for the first seven years of my career, then plan to meet someone, settle down, and start a family. By that time, I intend to have already made numerous international connections in which I can later take my family to visit.
Have you changed the way you live as a result of your experience abroad?
Unfortunately, I left my fervor for spontaneous adventures in Australia. I was anticipating this considering I’ve already journeyed to a plethora of attractions in Arizona and am no longer two minutes away from public transportation. Upon moving back to Northern Arizona University’s campus, I plan to dedicate at least one morning/afternoon each week to exploration and trying something new. I have often found it difficult to incorporate such social and spiritual outings with studying and fitness, so supplementing one excursion each week will require considerable dedication.
Other behaviors I’ve left behind include daily trips to the supermarket, training my friend, Shayla, and utilizing public transportation. I foresee most of these returning following my arrival back on campus because I will no longer have my car and live within closer proximity to friends.
