What are you most looking forward to?
One of the opportunities I am most looking forward to would be meeting my extended family. They have lived in Perth since their engagement and have spent their time together touring Europe and attending cricket games. For me, meeting them will symbolize developing a bond with loved ones that I may never have the opportunity to revisit again. This makes it extremely important for me to spend as much time as possible with them and hopefully form everlasting memories! I would also like to thank them for assisting me with flight details and other Australian facts.
In addition to connecting with my relatives, I am also looking forward to manifesting new connections with my international peers! Curtin University is widely known for accepting an abundance of abroad students and students from different parts of Australia. Developing new relationships with these individuals will enlighten me with information about new cultures. I may also receive opportunities for future visitations to their home countries.
Alongside experiencing the university’s heightened diversity of cultures, I am also destined to witness the unique slang of the average Australian. I am excited to be exposed to this peculiarity because I honestly despise the rap-influenced language of America. Their slang often times becomes overused to the point of irritation. Another reason I am anticipating the vocabulary adjustment is because I hope to acquire some of their slang. Imagine me returning from Australia and asking my American father for a pair of thongs (aka flip flops)!
The final, most paramount, reason I am looking forward to my study abroad is being able to experience the unique flora and fauna. Australia's wildlife varies REMARKABLY from America's, so I am eager to observe wild kangaroos and other foreign oddities. I also anticipate tasting their locally-grown cuisine and comparing/contrasting it to America’s imitations.
