Did traveling/studying abroad make you think any differently about your identity or your place in the world?
Studying abroad has impacted my life tremendously, however, I wouldn’t consider it to have changed my concept of my identity. I had always possessed the desire to travel and experience foreign scenery. Personally, I cannot recall anything so significant to have happened during my study abroad to have dramatically proliferated a new concept of myself. Exploring the western coast of Australia only heightened my passion for traveling in which I had already considered to be a part of my identity.
What did you learn about yourself?
During my study abroad, I learned that I have an extremely addictive personality. I found that once I have momentum in a habit, whether that be restricting food intake or partaking in compulsive behaviors, I continue that habit to a concerning degree. As I do not feel comfortable publicizing specifically what my addictive personality had become attached to, I will say that I no longer partake in it. The “cleansing” process of my former habit took immense strength, however, it has taught me that I have the willpower to overcome tough obstacles.
