Fourth Week in Perth, Australia:
I cannot believe I have been in Perth for almost a month! I miss my family at home, however, the realization of how fast time is flying is weighing heavily on my mind. In order to prevent procuring regret, I have been participating in almost every on-campus activity. Whenever I’m not in class, I’m either running errands with my friends or planning for my next excursion.
This weekend, the Guild is hosting a trip to Rottnest Island. The island offers magnificent opportunities for snorkeling, sightseeing, and several other family-friendly activities. Rottnest Island is also home to the rare and adorable quokka. Aside from its undeniable cuteness, the quokka’s signature smile is typically what lures visitors onto the island. Hopefully I’ll get the lucky chance to capture a quokka selfie!

What are your favorite sights, smells, and sounds of your study abroad neighborhood?
Since my arrival at uni, I have fallen in love with the variety of people around town. Each individual portrays an image that seems singular to their culture. Alongside the beautiful individuals, I am also taken aghast by Perth’s remarkable scenery. Everywhere I look I am struck with foreign flowers, modern infrastructure, and vibrant grass fields.
Aside from the beauty of my new environment, I also adore the smells of Australia’s foreign cuisine. Every time I walk past food trucks, I am reminded of the restaurant chains back at home! Another collection of smells I have recently fallen in love with are the scents of exotic candles. I would love to buy one for my room, however, the flat has incredibly sensitive smoke detectors.
The auditory stimulation I have experienced while being here is unforgettable. Never have I ever witnessed such an assortment of accents and languages in one setting! In addition to the lovely, distinct accents, I also adore the melodies of Australia’s signature wildlife.
