Fifth Week in Perth, Australia:
The fifth week of my study abroad experience was a bit busier than I had expected. On Monday, my Australian Studies professor arranged an excursion to Kings Park. This entailed an informational Australian studies tour promoting the local wildlife and national artifacts. Fortunately, I had mapped my bus route incorrectly and almost avoided the supposed 2-hour snore session! The next event I participated in was a promotion for Curtin University’s Study Abroad Program. Here, I received the opportunity to promote NAU and distribute peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I even got to reconnect with a fellow Lumberjack! Other than those, my week consisted of mostly research and required readings. I also had to write my first assessment, which took a lot longer than anticipated. On the bright side, I’m looking forward to next week being a bit more joyful and relaxing.
Who do you spend your time with? Are you meeting new people?
Since being in Australia, I’ve spent a majority of my time with my flat mates. Everybody gets along extremely well together, and we often arrange flat-family game nights and joint trips to the shops. Even though I’ve grown to love each of them individually, I usually find myself hanging out with Emma. I feel like her and I are the only two people that actually utilize our living room! Since we spend most of our time together, it’s probably safe to say we have the closest bond out of everyone. Besides my homies at “home”, I also spend a lot of time with people I’ve met on excursions. I get along well with these individuals because a majority of us are exchange students. Through meeting other international students, I’ve procured the cultural experience I craved prior to coming to Australia.
