Do you think of America any differently now that you have returned?
Yes, I do think of America differently. Immediately following my arrival in Australia, I was overwhelmed by the cultural diversity nearly everywhere I looked. I was not expecting to witness such an assortment of accents and appearances. As I began to assimilate myself into my new environment, the cultural consistency I had previously grown up with became progressively coherent. I had formerly failed to recognize that everything I had experienced prior was a product of my home country’s isolation. Now, having been home for a considerable amount of time, I’ve grown to despise America’s singular culture. It’s become noticeable in almost every aspect of my daily routine, such as media, trends, and most importantly, politics. My prior satisfaction with my home country has now been replaced by proliferating discontentment.
How do you plan to get involved in other international activities?
I plan on getting involved in other international activities by fulfilling my university’s “Global Ambassador” position. While working this position, I will assist other students in pursuing their dreams of studying abroad. I will also provide guidance regarding pre-departure preparation. Another position I hope to procure would be an assistant position for a brief introductory course offered to inbound foreign exchange students. If awarded, I will be cooperating with international students seeking support during their foreign adventures.
